Two Columbia residents were injured recently when their car spun out of control and crashed into a tractor-trailer, according to The Columbia Daily Tribune. The twenty year-old driver and his eighteen year-old passenger were traveling toward Lake Mykee at about 2:45 in the morning. The driver attempted to exit Highway 54 in Callaway County at a dangerous rate of speed. While attempting to navigate a curve at 60 miles per hour, the driver lost control of the car and crashed into a truck sitting at the intersection.

Both the driver and the passenger were treated for moderate injuries at Boone Hospital Center and later released. Both were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the accident. The truck driver, who was also wearing his seatbelt, did not seek medical attention after the accident.

Although no driver who shares the road with tractor-trailers can guarantee his or her own safety, there are a number of steps drivers can take to reduce the risk of an accident, or to reduce the risk of severe injury if a trucking crash in St. Louis occurs. Always travel at or slightly below the speed limit, even when passing a truck, and leave plenty of room between the back of your car and the front of the truck before you change lanes. Also, simply wearing a seatbelt can help protect you from severe injury or death.

If you or a loved one has been injured in a Missouri truck crash, you may have the right to seek compensation from a negligent driver. The experienced St. Louis truck injury accident attorneys at Page Law can help you understand your legal rights and will fight to win you the compensation you need to live your life again.

Truck accidents are capable of inflicting serious injuries upon those involved. Truck collisions may cause damage to a person’s vertebrae in the neck and cause irreversible damage to the spinal cord. Such damage may result in paralysis, quadriplegia or paraplegia. These are lifelong disabilities or catastrophic injuries that can change not only the lives of victims, but also the lives of their families. Paralysis of the lower trunk and lower extremities is known as paraplegia, while paralysis of most of the body, including the arms and legs, is known as quadriplegia.

Many truck accident injuries do not completely cut off the spinal cord. Such injuries most likely cause compression or fracture of the vertebrae. When this happens, a person may experience an interference with signals to and from the brain or the rest of the body. However, with good emergency care, aggressive treatment and rehabilitation, a good amount of truck accident injuries lead to a complete recovery. Still, treating spinal cord injuries can be extremely costly and painful for the victim.

If you have been injured as a result of a truck driver’s negligence, please remember that truck companies will send out their insurance adjusters, investigators and attorneys right away to get working on the case and begin their investigation. They will try to suppress or destroy evidence on the scene that may be important to your case.

You need an experienced Missouri truck accident spinal cord injury lawyer from Page Cagle on your side, fighting for your rights, and protecting your best interests. Our truck accident team will begin our investigation and make sure you have a strong case to obtain compensation to cover all medical costs, loss of earnings, and other damages. Call Page Cagle today at 1-866-620-5757 to schedule your free and comprehensive consultation.

According to an article from the Kansas City Star, a tractor-trailer hit a barrier and overturned, spilling about 400 gallons of hazardous hydrochloric acid (HCl) on northbound Interstate 35 at Front Street in Kansas City, Missouri. Northbound lanes of the Paseo Bridge are still closed while the southbound lanes reopened late afternoon on Monday, November 30.

The truck driver was taken to the nearest hospital. Two police officers and a construction worker were also hospitalized after inhaling fumes. Several others in the area also went in on their own accord because of eye and respiratory irritation. Numerous hazardous material crews, along with state and federal officials and contractors, were at the scene for cleanup and decontamination.

Police believe that the truck driver was going too fast for passing a narrow and curving roadway near a construction zone. Investigations of the crash are on hold until the remaining chemicals are removed.
Hydrochloric acid is a highly corrosive inorganic compound that is often used for industrial processes. In high concentrations, HCl forms a cloud or vapor plume that has a toxic effect on lungs, trachea, skin, eyes and intestines. About 20 million metric tons of HCl are produced each year.

In other words, truck accidents and toxic spills like this one affect not only the victims in the crash, but the surrounding area and people. Tractor-trailers, semi trucks and 18-wheelers encompass 15% of fatalities in Missouri. If you or someone you love has been injured in a truck accident, you need an experienced Missouri semi truck accident attorney at Page Cagle to hear your case and recover the compensation you deserve. Contact us at (866) 620-5757 for a free truck accident consultation and learn your rights.

A truck driver had to be extricated from his tractor-trailer after he collided with vehicles at westbound Interstate 470 near Interstate 430, according to a KMBC news report. The tractor-trailer spilled about 200 gallons of fuel on the roadway. The truck driver was injured. The report did not mention whether the occupants of the other vehicles were hurt. Officials are trying to determine what caused this Missouri truck accident.

Truck accidents in Missouri occur for a variety of reasons. Sometimes, the driver of the passenger vehicle may be at fault. But quite often, we see that a truck accident occurs because the truck driver is fatigued, under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or because the big rig is not properly maintained or is overloaded. When a truck accident is caused by a truck driver’s negligence or as a result of the trucking company’s negligence, then the injured victim or the family of the deceased victim can file a personal injury or wrongful death claim against the at-fault truck driver and trucking company.

There is no question that as consumers, we need trucks to transport goods. We depend on trucks to transport freight and even the food we eat. But, it is also important that these trucks and their drivers abide by traffic laws and drive carefully and responsibly, respecting the safety and well-being of others on the road.

If you or a loved one has been injured in a Missouri truck accident, you need skilled legal representation. You need an aggressive St. Louis tractor trailer accident lawyer from Page Cagle, who will remain at your side and make sure that your rights are protected and that you receive compensation for medical expenses, pain and suffering and lost earnings.

A 7-year-old girl is in critical condition after the vehicle she was a passenger in was struck by a semi tractor trailer on Interstate 29. According to a news report in the St. Joseph News-Press, the Missouri truck accident occurred when the girl was traveling in a 1999 Jeep driven by her mother. Two other children were also in the Jeep. The collision happened when the 72-year-old driver of the semi attempted to move back in the driving lane. The mother sustained serious injuries and was taken to a hospital. The two other children were treated and released, but the young girl remains hospitalized with critical injuries. The driver of the semi died from injuries he suffered in the accident.

In any truck accident case where the truck driver is at fault, the injured victims may seek compensation from the truck driver’s employer, the trucking company. In such cases, victims may seek compensation to cover medical costs, cost of surgery, hospitalization, and even the cost of long-term care and rehabilitation. Medical costs can be astronomical in cases involving catastrophic injuries.

Missouri Highway Patrol officials are investigating a fatal truck accident in Texas County where a 45-year-old Houston man was struck and killed by a tractor-trailer, according to a recent news report. The man was standing on Highway 63 just north of Houston, Missouri, when troopers say the tractor-trailer hit the man. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The truck driver was tested for alcohol as required by Missouri law.

Truck drivers, like other motorists, have a responsibility to be cautious and diligent drivers, following the rules of the road to prevent accidents and injuries. However, when a truck driver is negligent or drives recklessly by not following the regulations of the road, the safety of other commuters is put in jeopardy. The most common causes of fatal Missouri truck accidents include alcohol abuse, truck driver fatigue, distracted drivers (use of cell phones or other communication devices while driving) and poor truck maintenance that may lead to a mechanical malfunction.

In many of these cases, trucking companies can also be held responsible for the accidents. If a trucking company fails to properly inspect its truck or hires drivers with a poor driving record or a history of substance abuse, then the trucking company could be held accountable for damages and injuries caused to innocent victims.

When negligence either by the truck driver or the trucking company causes an injury accident, then the injured victim can seek compensation in a court of law. If you or a loved one has been injured in a Missouri truck accident, please contact an experienced truck accident attorney at Page Cagle, who may be able to help you receive the compensation you rightfully deserve to cover medical costs, property damage and even lost earnings. Call Page Cagle today at 866-620-5757 for a free consultation.

After a vehicle rear-ended a big rig on Missouri Highway 59 in Newton County, a Joplin man was killed and his son suffered injuries. According to a news report in the Joplin Globe, the 56-year-old man in the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. His son, 30, was also taken to an area hospital with injuries. The older man was a passenger in a pickup truck driven by his son, which apparently ran into the rear of a southbound tractor trailer that had stopped and was waiting for another vehicle to make a left turn.

Truck accidents can cause extremely serious and devastating injuries including brain and spinal cord injuries, which can leave a person disabled for life. Truck accidents can also be fatal. The serious injuries and fatalities caused by truck accidents usually affect the occupants of the passenger vehicles – not the big rigs. This is because of the size and weight of the large trucks, which overpower and overwhelm other vehicles on our roadways. Big rigs often weigh over 80,000 pounds and when something that big and heavy hits a passenger car, the occupants of the car are the ones most seriously injured.

When a truck accident occurs as a result of the truck driver’s negligence, injured victims can seek compensation from the driver and in most cases, the trucking company, as well. Most companies carry liability insurance, which helps compensate victims of serious personal injury. Still, if you are a victim, you need a Missouri truck accident lawyer on your side fighting for your rights and protecting your best interest. If you have lost a loved one in a truck accident, please contact a skilled St. Louis wrongful death truck accident attorney at Page Cagle for a free consultation and case evaluation.

St. Louis Missouri truck accident attorneys are extremely concerned about big rigs that are illegally parked on Missouri’s roadways. Illegally parked commercial trucks can lead to catastrophic accidents, especially when drivers fail to see these trucks and crash into them. These accidents can cause very serious injuries or even death because they may happen at a high rate of speed.

The Daily Statesman reported an incident at the US 60 and Highway 25 where a 51-year-old woman was injured when she struck a parked Freightliner truck in the rear. According to Missouri State Highway Patrol officials, the Freightliner was parked on the shoulder of the highway, but was extended partially onto the roadway. The woman was taken by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment of moderate injuries. The truck was unoccupied at the time.

In any truck accident case, if an accident occurs because the big rig was illegally parked on a roadway, then both the truck driver and his employer – the trucking company – may be held liable for injuries and damages caused to the victim. In some cases, especially if the accident results in major injury or death – criminal charges may also be filed against the driver and the trucking company. In any truck accident, if the big rig was parked legally, then the trucking firm may not face any liability.

If you have been injured in a Missouri truck accident, it is crucial to contact a reputable truck accident lawyer experienced in handling big rig accident cases. Our skilled St. Louis truck accident lawyers at Page Cagle will quickly help determine who is at fault by conducting an immediate investigation and by working with our accident reconstruction experts. Please call us today for a free consultation and evaluation of your Missouri truck accident case.

Missouri tractor-trailer accidents can cause serious injuries such as brain and spinal cord injuries. Very often large truck accidents also result in death. Most of the time, it is the occupants of the passenger vehicle who get catastrophically injured or killed. According to the Department of Transportation’s truck accident statistics for 2007, there were 4,363 truck accidents reported in the state of Missouri involving injuries and fatalities. During the same period, 139,321 truck accidents were reported in the United States that involved injuries and deaths.

A recent news article in the Joplin Globe reports a two-vehicle accident on the Interstate 44 near Joplin involving a car and a tractor trailer. A 56-year-old man reportedly drove his westbound vehicle into the back of a westbound tractor trailer. The accident occurred as the truck driver slowed down to pull into a weigh station, Missouri Highway Patrol officials said.

In any truck accident case, it is extremely important to analyze all aspects of the incident and make sure that the person whose negligence caused the accident and injuries is held accountable. In a commercial truck accident case, if the driver’s negligence caused the accident, the injured victim may seek compensation to cover expenses such as medical costs, loss of earnings, cost of hospitalization and other related damages. The trucking company, which employs the negligent driver, can also be held liable especially if the accident involves Missouri trucking law violations.

According to a usatoday.com article, federal regulators were informed three years ago by safety investigators that a ban on cell phone use for drivers of buses and trucks would help reduce dangerous risks associated with texting and talking on a cell phone while driving. The report stated on September 24, 2009 that a two-day summit would be conducted on distracted driving, addressing plans to announce new actions that will be made against cell phone use by truck and bus drivers.

However, considering the vast amount of auto accidents involving commercial vehicles due to driver cell phone use, this response seems to have come too late. As of September, 2009, only 17 states and the District of Columbia ban cell phone use while driving a school bus. While the American Trucking Associations takes a neutral standpoint on the ban of truck drivers using cell phones while driving, they did tell reports that they “think cell phones and other electronic equipment should have some policies and regulations on them to prevent their misuse”.

It also is interesting that the wireless industry supports prohibiting texting while driving, yet is neutral when it comes to hindering cell phone use by drivers. Do they really think their profits will plummet if a ban is issued? Considering that a recent study by psychologists at the University of Utah has demonstrated that drivers who talk on handheld or hands-free cell phones operate their vehicles similar to that of a drunk driver, it may be time to issue a ban against cell phone use for all drivers, commercial drivers included, in all U.S. states.

Accidents involving tractor trailers and other commercial vehicles, whether they are caused by cell phone use or another form of negligent driving practice, can cause catastrophic injuries that include spinal injuries, traumatic brain injuries, broken bones, and many other serious calamities. No one ever expects that they will be a victim to extreme pain and suffering due to such injuries, which makes the aftermath of most truck accidents very difficult to endure.
